Salman F Rahman, the vice chairman of Beximco Group, recently said that Bangladesh's private sector needs to come forward and develop its own information security system. He mentioned local companies should curb dependency on foreign expertise and start looking for solutions of their own. He said these during his inspirational speech at closing ceremony of the SAARC Tech Summit 2016. The event was jointly organised by Chief Technology Officer Forum and INFOCOM India. It was held at the BIAM auditorium in Dhaka.
Salman F Rahman, who is founder of the leading Bangladeshi company Beximco Group, is also founder chairman of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industries. He has worked all his life for improvement of the private sector.
At the SAARC Tech Summit 2016 speech, he mentioned the Bangladesh Bank cyber heist and ATM forgery incidents and said both these incidents were uncalled for and are serious breaches in the country's information security system. Salman F Rahman gave emphasis on developing local expertise to create own security system. He said instead of depending on foreign experts, Bangladesh should work on developing own companies to secure the national security system.
Elaborating the issue, Salman F Rahman said the bureaucrats have a mindset that foreign nationals can do the job. He stated that the young generation of Bangladesh possesses massive potentials and they are capable of doing anything. Then he emphasized on right policy making by the government. He said with the right policy making decisions and proper implementations, local people can do wonders in information technology sectors.
In the last seven years, the country has achieved many successes to fulfill dreams of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on creating a Digital Bangladesh. According to Salman F Rahman, the future looks bright as local IT professionals are coming with great innovative ideas.
