A huge amount of smuggled goods, nearly of 3.28 billion Taka have been seized by Bangladesh border guards from the borders with India in 2013 so far. The paramilitary force also saved 390 women including 194 children from human traffickers along the borders between the two countries during the last seven months. The numbers are significantly higher compared to same period last year.
According to the Border Guard Bangladesh headquarters, the members of the paramilitary force had arrested 959 people on charge of smuggling during the period January 1 to July 31.
The members of the Border Guard Bangladesh rescued the woman and children while they were being trafficked out of the country mainly to the neighboring country India. They also arrested 13 alleged traffickers during the last seven months.
Among the seized goods, there were 3,20,201 bottles of Indian intoxicating Phensidy, l3,08,900 pieces of sex-stimulating tablets and Yaba, about 94,000 bottles of foreign and local liquor, 6,607 beer cans, 2826 kgs hemp, and also 25 kg heroin. There were filed 14748 cases across the country in connection with seized goods and narcotic items.
The smugglers were smuggling the banned goods worth about 3,06 billion Taka inside the country while 21 million Taka worth of goods were being smuggled outside of the country.
A total number of 145 cases in the different police stations across the country were filled during the last seven months.
The government must take initiatives soon in order to prevent this. The after effects are hurting the society by a large margin.
