The Election Commission said that it had started treating 13 registered political parties as defaulters because they could not submit their annual audit reports for the year 2012 within deadline. Among the 39 registered political parties, 26 submitted their audit statements within the July 31, 2013 deadline.
According to the rules, total transactions of a party on a calendar year must be audited by a chartered accounting firm and submitted the commission by 31 July.
Among the notable 13 parties who could not be able to submit the reports are Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-Jasad, Communist Party of Bangladesh-CPB, Workers Party of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan, Bangladesher Samybadi Dal-ML, etc. But the audit reports of Jasad, Workers Party along with Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan were submitted after the deadline, while CPB placed within the time frame, but reports were not certified by an audit firm.
Nine parties out of the 13 already appealed, seeking further time to submit their audit statements.

According to the clause 90H (1) ©, if a political party fails to submit audit report in time for three consecutive years, the registration of that political party may be cancelled.
