Bangabandhu Gold Cup football tournament is on! Bangladesh has reached the final!
The Bangabandhu Gold Cup named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib was 1st launched in 1996 by Bangladesh Football Federation. It was named Bangabandhu gold cup in order to show honour towards Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib.
People of Bangladesh previously had much love towards football but now it’s diverting towards Cricket. That is because Bangladesh is going well in cricket for last few years. People of Bangladesh were acquainted with football long ago. But still Football is very exoteric and people's excitement during World cup reflects that.
Presently people, especially the young generation, are biased towards football although Bangladesh is still lagging behind. The Bangabandhu Gold Cup football tournament can outset the golden time of football in Bangladesh. Since its launching in 1996, only two tournaments were held until 2014. BFF tried to launch one tournament in 2009 but it prolonged to 2014-15.
The recent Bangabandhu Gold Cup tournament in 2015 is an excitement for everyone as it is happening after a long time. Six countries including Bangladesh are competing in the tournament. Teams from Malaysia, Laos, Singapore, Bahrain and Thailand were summoned to attend the tournament by BFF. The teams ensured that they will take part in it. It was said by Kazi Salahuddin, the president of Bangladesh Football Federation that the teams of those countries promised that they will take part in Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football Tournament every year. Pakistan and Qatar showed their interest towards it lately. But later some of the teams pulled out. Lastly it was confirmed that Srilanka, Thailand, Singapore, Bahrain, Malaysia and Bangladesh will play. The teams were divided into two groups. Group A included Bangladesh, Srilanka and Malaysia and Group B included Thailand, Bahrain and Singapore.
Channel 9 is sponsoring the tournament. They have signed an agreement with Bangladesh football federation. It’s a 30 crore agreement that anticipates that Channel 9 is going to sponsor this tournament for the next five years. According to the president of BFF, tournaments like this cannot take places as the players are committed towards the professional league. It happens also for the scheme of FIFA and ADC. It was enunciated by Enayetur Rahman, the managing director of Channel 9 that the interest towards football enlarged by broadcasting the matches live of Indian Super League in Bangladesh. He also predicted and hoped that the tournament of Bangabandhu world cup will be viewed by over 50 countries in the world.
Bangladesh, squad includes Shahidul Yousuf Sohel, Mazharul Haq Himel, Russel Mahmud Liton as goal keepers, Nasirul Islam Nasir, Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, Atiqur Rahman Meshu, Raihan Hasan, Yeasin Khan,Yeamin Ahmed Chowdhury Munna, Topu barman as defenders, Mohamed Zahid Hossain, Mohd Mamunul Islam (c), Monaem Khan Raju, Jamal Bhuyan,Hemanta Vincent Biswas, Sohel Rana, Sahedul Alam Sahedopu Barman as mid-fielders and lastly Jahid Hasan Ameli, Mithun Chowdhury Mithun, Toklis Ahmed, Wahed Ahmed, Abdul Baten Mojumdar Komol and Shakhawat Hossain Rony as forwards.
The tournament started on 28th January in Sylhet with huge enthusiasm and amusement among the football lovers. The venues are Sylhet district stadium and Bangabandhu National Stadium, Dhaka. The time is fixed at 5:00 pm for all the matches.
